“While driving at 20 MPH the vehicle was in a frontal collision and none of the air bags deployed upon impact. Driver sustained cracked ribs and other injuries.”

NHTSA complaint #10037675, filed 2003-12, 106,000 miles

“We had tons of problems with the car immed. After purchase-check engine light was always coming on,car stalling, light coming on dashboard, car noises, engine leaks. The car could not be fixed by carmax as far as check engine light is concerned so we brought the car to a Volvo dealer. Check engine light was repaired numerous times yet still came back on. I never got any recall letters concerning frontal airbag issues in 1998 Volvo. I always had a fear that all of the electrical problems-dashboard lights, check engine light-would result in a safety problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10251659, filed 2008-12

“My vehicle was in park, and my 8-year-old daughter closed the front passenger door from outside the car. The side airbag deployed for no apparent reason. I have contacted Volvo, and they inspected the car on sept. 5. They promised to give me a full report along with a decision on whether or not they would pay for the repair within a week. It's been almost three weeks, and they still have not supplied the report or a decision despite several phone calls that I have made to them. …”

Both vehicles sustained front end damage and were towed. A police report was filed. The current and failure mileages were 60,000. Updated 03/06/08.”
