“We have a 2001 V70 t5 Volvo wagon. We bought the car new, and when it was about 1 year old the receptacle of the safety belt which latched in my son's car seat cracked straight down the middle. I only discovered it when I was checking the base of his infant car seat to make sure it was still tight. Volvo repaired the receptacle for free, as the car was under warranty. The car is now seven years old, and it has happened again, with a different seat belt receptacle, also in the back seat. …”
NHTSA complaint #10231699, filed 2008-06, 79,000 miles“The driver's side seatbelt does not roll smoothly either being pulled out or allowed to retract.when you pull out ' or release to return the driver's side seatbelt, it catches in the bottom of the slot in the side post where it curves forward so that it either won't come out far enough to latch, or if you can pull it out and insert it in the latch, it sticks when you let it go so that it stays slack and does not retract to keep the belt tight. Even if you manage to get it out and properly inserted, it will not retract when released. . …”
NHTSA complaint #11331366, filed 2020-06, 82,000 miles“Customer's seat belt on a 2001 Volvo V70 would not pull out. The plastic trim piece in the b pillar where the seat belt slides through had broken, causing the belt to double up on retraction and seize up. This is a brittle piece of plastic and breaks fairly often with minor impacts. This would seem to be a critical fault in a major safety device.”
