“I was driving at about 35 MPH. When I slowed down to make a 90 degree right turn, without warning the engine and power steering went off as I was turning. I had to manually steer the car and luckily did not crash because there was no car in the opposite lane. I pulled over to the side of the road, restarted the car, and received no error message. I took the car to the local Volvo dealer where they could find nothing wrong and deny this is a recall issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10716829, filed 2015-05, 134,300 miles

“Engine stopped on freeway, in heavy traffic. Wife and children in the car. Exact description as in NHTSA campaign I.d. 07v226000. Dealer (carlsen Volvo, palo alto, ca), claimed the car had no indication of recalls on their computer, but Volvo recall campaign r181 clearly states my vehicle and specific engine # 61 (6th and 7th digits in VIN) were subject of recall for the specific symptoms involved. I called Volvo u.s. And they gave me the same rote response, your vehicle's VIN number doesn't show up as being included in r181 . This is patently false. …”

NHTSA complaint #10471906, filed 2012-08, 50,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2004 Volvo V70. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000 and the current mileage was 117,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10537221, filed 2013-08, 114,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2004 Volvo V70. The contact stated that the check engine and oil pressure warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where the contact was advised that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The contact was told there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 07v266000 (engine and engine cooling) but the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure and the current mileages were 75,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10471673, filed 2012-08, 75,000 miles

“This vehicle, a 2004 V70 wagon, is exhibiting the exact safety defect described in Campaign 09V483000 / R220 (fuel odor, leaking flange, residual pressure loss). But because my VIN is not specifically on the list (it has been registered in CT, not in a warm climate ), Volvo is refusing to fix. It is clear that this vehicle has the issue described in the recall (the top of the tank has been visualized). The issue started in January 2026 and has steadily worsened. With the amount of gasoline leaking, this is not only a safety issue but also an EMISSIONS issue.”
