Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I recently noticed water intruding into the top side of the windshield. The issue persisted over the course of a couple weeks until the water intrusion became severe and risked electrical damage to the vehicle. After contacting safelite auto glass I was informed by the technician that this issue is common across Volvo vehicles in his experience. The top of the windshield was not sealed to the car and could be easily separated when pressure was applied from inside of the vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #11014148, filed 2017-08, 55,000 miles

“When raining outside water drops inside on the driver from the top of the windshield above the steering wheel . This just started on a 7.5 year old car but with only 47,850 miles. This is a safety issue because the driver is getting wet and is totally distracted and, if ignored, the body will rust, loosening the windshield.. The car cannot be safely driven in the rain with this leak and it cannot be left outside at all if there is any chance of rain, unless the windshield is covered with plastic. …”

NHTSA complaint #11408026, filed 2021-04, 47,850 miles

“Water leakage inside of front driver side windshield during light rainfall. Car was stationary. Leakage is continuous each time it rains. Volvo XC60 2013 3.2 engine”

NHTSA complaint #11398195, filed 2021-02, 41,768 miles

“I own a 2013 xc 60. It has adhesive failure on the windshield. It has been this way for over two years. Everywhere I take my vehicle they tell me that it is probably the sunroof leaking. (safelight who Volvo said I should use) we have checked all the sunroof drains and it is not the sunroof it is 100% manufacture defect. I was told by one Volvo dealership that they would consider pulling it out for me but if the windshield broke I am responsible for a new windshield. They acknowledge that they have had multiple complaints on this year make and model for the windshield leaking. …”

NHTSA complaint #11290174, filed 2019-12

“Factory installed windshield is leaking profusely due to faulty adhesive/primer. This is a well known issue that causes havoc on vital electronic systems and should be a national recall. The loose windshield bond can cause the windshield to detach during a crash. The failed windshield bond compromises the structural integrity of the roof.”
