Example complaints
Transmission and drivetrain: “The now infamous 3rd gear issues for 2006-7 star Roadliner/stratoliner has afflicted my bike since 2009. I had full extended warranty at the time and the dealer did not recognize the 3rd gear chatter as a problem. Almost everyone I have ever met that owns one has the 3rd gear problem and has gotten hosed over it. Yamaha needs to owe up to this debacle and recall and fix this issue.”
NHTSA complaint #10695418, filed 2015-03, 9,250 milesEngine: “Taka take recall there is loud noises coming from my engine and transmission at 35 to 40 MPH sounds like transmission is falling apart and doing alot of damage I have had to stop driving it due to this problem so we need to fix the issue it was at slow speeds doing 35 to 45mph in town”
NHTSA complaint #10898108, filed 2016-08, 29,899 milesElectrical system: “My 2006 Yamaha Roadliner has an intermittent stalling problem. The bike will run fine but when stopping at a red light, stop sign, ect and the bike will stall. The RPM will start dropping once the clutch is pulled in and it will not stop going down until the bike stalls. The engine will drop to around 500 RPM, fight to stay alive for a second, and then shut off. This happens whenever the bike wants to and I have found no way to duplicate the problem. This makes it impossible for a dealership to diagnose the problem. …”
