“Lately the airbag light will come an and I will get a message saying safety malfunction , I am taking it by the shop tomorrow, but just in case someone else has this problem, it will be identified. We were driving and it came on, then went off then came back on. Also the identify up by the lights were going between passenger air bag off and on, and my wife was in the passenger seat.”
NHTSA complaint #11005897, filed 2017-07, 32,000 miles“Airbag warning light comes on in dash and chime continuously goes off at various times (while stationary or driving) - with or without passenger in seat. Brought car to the dealership and they said the passenger side airbag needs to be 're-harnessed'. Also stated that until the repair is done the light and chime will continue going off and the airbag is at risk of not deploying in an accident. I am outside of my warranty and it is not covered even though it is a safety issue. It will cost about $300 to fix.”
NHTSA complaint #11183314, filed 2019-02, 90,000 miles“Takata recall -- Audi issued the recall in jan 2017 and still does not have replacement parts available. Meanwhile, I am unable to take my wife or other family/friends anywhere in my car because I fear for their lives (based on the recall letter's warning of injury/death). I called Audi of america twice, and they have not started sourcing parts. I called the dealership, and they have no received parts, nor have they replaced any takata airbags to date. It appears that even though a recall was issued, nothing is happening.”
NHTSA complaint #11005308, filed 2017-07, 87,000 miles“Nhtsa recall 19v547 -- I recently experienced the issue with my 2017 Audi a4 in which the passenger occupant detection system has become faulty. As a result of this issue, my passenger air bag will shut off as it is not detecting a passenger in the vehicle even when one is present. I contacted my Audi dealer who told me they were aware of this issue but did not have the parts to fix the problem at that time. This was over a month ago and remains an issue. With no other form of transportation, we are forced to drive a car without a passenger air bag intermittently. …”
NHTSA complaint #11255799, filed 2019-09, 40,000 miles“I believe this is the same problem as recall #18v370000 but my car is not in list of recalled cars. With an adult in the passenger seat, a warning message says that the because of a malfunction, the air bags are turned off. A few seconds to a minute or two later another message says the air bags are on. This sequence can appear many times in an hour of driving or not appear at all for several days. I have verified with the dealer that when the message says the airbags are off, they really are off. So my passenger sometimes lacks the protection afforded by the air bags.”
