While driving at 40 MPH, the passenger restraint system, fault in passenger restraint system affecting air bag and belt pre-tensioner warning was displayed across the message board. The air bag and seat belt warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.”

As a result, the airbags will not deploy on the passenger side, if a passenger is present, in an accident. The error is displayed as soon as the passenger sits. Warning lights go out after restarting the car and if the passenger seat is unoccupied.”
NHTSA complaint #11465212, filed 2022-05“The contact owns a 2008 Bmw 528xi. The contact stated that the passenger restraint warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised the contact that the crash safety module needed to be replaced. If not, the airbags would not deploy in the event of a crash nor would the front passenger seat belt operate properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 73,067.”
