“On august 7, 2007 I took my car to sterling Bmw in newport beach, ca because I noticed the airbag malfunction lights were on along with other electrical issues. After they had inspected my vehicle for three days I was informed that the airbag/electrical problem would not be covered by the Bmw factory warranty, and the service department recommended that I file a claim with my insurance carrier. Obviously my insurance company denied the claim, because automobile insurance does not cover loss due to wear and tear, mechanical or electrical breakdown/failure. …”

NHTSA complaint #10240250, filed 2008-08, 24,994 miles

“6/25/18 Bmw worked on my car and supposedly fixed the problem (knee air bag r & r , resistance too low in airbag, replaced airbag, internal module failure, srs b pillar right module) . 12/31/18 air bag light stays on consistently while driving”

NHTSA complaint #11165667, filed 2019-01, 84,000 miles

“My driver side seatbelt sensor suddenly would randomly detect no seatbelt despite being buckled and then the steering wheel airbag deployed into me while I was reversing the car under 2mph. I suffered burns and bruises, hearing loss, and disorientation from the deployed airbag. I could have broke my nose, or my wrist or fingers. BMW dealership refused covering towing and inspection. BMW airbags across multiple models and years have experienced recalls and issues. Seatbelt detection sensor blinked before airbag deployed into me.”

NHTSA complaint #11770968, filed 2026-10

“First the check engine light on, I went to houston momentum Bmw dealer to check and they found out that there was a faulty signal from somewhere they were not sure about. They gave me an estimate for than a thousand dollars to find it and repair it. It would cost more if they found out the real problem. I told them this should be under Bmw warranty, but they said it wasn't. I refused the work. This case happened few years ago. Now I have air bag light on, I don't know why. I don't dare to go back to dealer to check because I'm afraid they will rip me off again and again. …”

NHTSA complaint #10693675, filed 2015-03

“The contact owned a 2005 Bmw Z4. While the contact's husband was driving 65 MPH, the vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the rear of the preceding vehicle. The air bag deployed with metal shards and a metal rod going through the hand of the driver. The contact also sustained minor burns on the hand and feet from the gases when the air bag deployed. Medical attention was sought several days after the crash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an independent facility. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. …”
