Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving on the freeway at full speed when the car abruptly shut off. I had no power and all dash lights went black. It was very frightening. I don't know how but I managed to get it to the side of the road. It has been in the shop for over a week and they still have not found the cause. I hope this does not happen to anyone else.”

NHTSA complaint #11255105, filed 2019-09, 11,128 miles

“Check engine light came on at 60,000 miles. Car is a 2017, 3 years old. Diagnostic code shows the alternator is no good. Car just surpassed warranty. Gm could not provide a reason for the alternator going bad on such a new vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #11316630, filed 2020-03, 60,000 miles

“Car has electronic child safety door locks activated when using the hard button that typically locks only windows. Wife took a nap in back seat on lunch break at work, didn't realize window lock button was accidentally engaged, locked with remote from back seat while car was running. Door remote would not allow the back doors and passenger door to remain locked and door handles would not open from inside even when using the remote. She was trapped in the back. With a very bad back and knee it was not easy to climb to front driver side door to unlock from there, the only place this would work. …”

NHTSA complaint #11153668, filed 2018-11, 11,000 miles

“The interior windshield, side widows and rear window accumulates moisture and frost and it drips down on my dashboard, down my windows, and forms a puddle in the rear of my vehicle as it melts down. I’m afraid this is going to destroy my electrical system and the interior of my vehicle. I have to wipe up the water with a towel.”

NHTSA complaint #11498760, filed 2022-12

“The liftgate has randomly started closing on me while I'm loading groceries at least 3 times in the past year. Every time it has hit me in the forehead with enough force to cause intense pain for several days. Otherwise, it works normally so there is no way I know to intentionally reproduce the issue. It has not been inspected because, again, it has happened like 3 times in the past year. Very painful, but doesn't seem likely to be something obvious.”
