Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Headlight assembly, after about 4 years the headlight assemblies on the vehicle become fogged over so badly that you cannot see the road very clearly at night. This is due to the auto makers using plastic for the lens cover instead of using glass on the assemblies, if they used glass there would not be a problem, the headlight assemblies are just as important as the windshield.”

NHTSA complaint #10386022, filed 2011-03, 40,000 miles

“Windshield wipers stopped working while passing an 18 wheeler during a rainstorm at 6:00 am. Almost caused a multi vehicle accident as visibility was 0 . I could not get windshield wipers to work after I pulled off the road. Later in the pm, wipers would work on either high or low, but not intermittent.”

NHTSA complaint #744505, filed 2001-04

“Consumer states that the slope of the windshield is such that when driving with the sun shining on the top of the dashboard cowling, the driver sees a reflection of the cowling in his view of the road, the dealer states that there is no fix for this problem.”

NHTSA complaint #565512, filed 2002-05

“While driving in rain windshield wipers will operate and will quit working at a time, leaving consumer without clear vision of road. Consumer states problem has been fixed.”

NHTSA complaint #883717, filed 2001-03

“Intermittently windshield wipers become inoperable, obstructing view of driver. Dealer has repaired windshield wipers three times, and problem still exists. Manufacturer has been notified.”
