NHTSA complaint #10810429, filed 2015-12, 194,985 miles“I was driving around a drivethru at kfc and the car immediately began to accelerate. The car began to speed up and steering wheel locked causing my vehicle to crash into the side of the building and damage the gas line. Prior to the accident, I saw a recall on the news about the removal of the keys out of the ignition and noticed my vehicle was also able to remove the keys while the car still ran with a red security light. It was 8:30am and there was no other cars involved and I was not using the drivethru, I was just driving up to the door to see what time the establishment opened.”
NHTSA complaint #10595559, filed 2014-06, 126,000 miles“While driving 20 MPH the steering failed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a snow bank. The consumer experienced two crashes due to the brakes and the steering locking. The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer on three occasions for the steering problem but the locking continued. The dash lights would come on (gas gauge and oil light), the vehicle pulled to the right and the trunk would fly open while the vehicle was in motion.”
