Example complaints

Brakes: “While reversing at 10 MPH brakes failed , causing the consumer to hit the vehicle in the rear. The brake pedal was hard when depressed. Consumer read in the owner's manual that the vehicle had dual brakes. Meaning, if one part fails the other part would work to stop the vehicle. Brakes were checked by a private dealer and consumer learned he had brakes going forward but not backwards.”

Other or unknown: “I've had 3 master cylinders put in my Allante- one when I bought it- I had to wait 2 weeks to get it- I thought how great they are putting new breaks on my car- I started having break problems within a few months- I kept taking it back to the dealer and they kept telling me it was fixed ileft the dealer one rainy night and had no breaks- I drove very slow back to the dealers in tears I was so scared- I'm female so I can do that- they put a new master cylinder in then- worked fine until last christmas- the brakes went out again with my grand daughter in the car- also the car was out of…”

NHTSA complaint #700525, filed 1998-11

Body and structure: “Convertible top will not secure and will fly open ,causing a potential saftey hazard to me or, passenger, or other drivers. It seems, even though it is secured, it has a tendency to pop open, causing me to attempt to grab the top in orde r to prevent further damage and prevent a safety hazrd. From my personal investigation, it seems this is a common problem with the Allante, but nothing is being done to correct it. This is an attempt to help correct the problem before a deadly accident occurs to driver/passenger or innocent by-standers.”

NHTSA complaint #703474, filed 1999-02

Equipment: “The contact owns a 1991 Cadillac elante. The fram fuel filter split in half and caused a fuel leak. Approximately a half tank of gasoline began spurting from the filter. The filter was installed in the vehicle a year ago and worked properly until september 14, 2007. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic because the smell of gasoline was overwhelming. The contact stated that his driveway was damaged from the fuel leak. He has a pictures and the filter if needed. The equipment was not the original equipment. The purchase date was unavailable. …”
