“Total brake failure due to mechanical breakdown on my 2001 Cadillac dhs. The failure happened between the connection for the brake pedal and the brake actuator. Result: zero braking. Please help me get this fixed. I have the bill for this repair. The failure was caused by an apparent failure of a c clip. I notified ntsb months ago and have yet to have a follow up, thank you for your kind attention to this matter.”
NHTSA complaint #10220501, filed 2008-03, 81,000 miles“While traveling on the highway at 55mph traffic suddenly came to a stop. I had to make a panic stop at which time the brake system failed. The pedal sank to the floor, thankfully I pulled the shift lever to low and put the emergency brake on to keep from hitting the car in front of me. When I got home I jacked up the car to take a look at what was the problem and found the brake lines completely rusted, and a rupture in the actual line. After researching this appears to be a problem with Cadillac brake lines(using cheap materials).”
NHTSA complaint #10507321, filed 2013-04, 125,456 miles“Dt: while driving consumer puts foot on the brakes, and then puts foot back on the gas, and the vehicle dies. There is no indication that there any problems before hand. Then the service engine light comes on, and stays on for 2 or 3 days. The consumer has not taken the vehicle in to the dealership for service yet, waiting on GM to recommend.”
NHTSA complaint #10120300, filed 2005-06, 53,000 miles“Brake pedal went to the floor, and the vehicle lost brake power. This occurred when the brake pedal was depressed to stop the vehicle after accelerating to 20 MPH. This resulted in the consumer rear ending another motorist. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, who was unable to resolve the problem. As of 5/15/04 neither the GM inspector nor the insurance adjuster were able to provide a report.”
NHTSA complaint #10071962, filed 2004-06, 33,000 miles“Dt: the consumer stated 2001 Cadillac Deville was stalling and jumping. This is happening intermittently. The consumer has taken the car to the dealership for repairs 4 times. They could not find the cause of the problem. The car was stalling even in the driveway. The consumer is getting a rental when the dealer is working on the car. The car has had diagnostic testing done. The owner says that the car is under warranty. The dealer can not get the car into the shop till next week. And the owner is now going to have to pay for the rental fee from the dealership. …”
