Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My vehicle started stalling about three weeks ago, it would suddenly just cut off as if the gas was no longer fueling the vehicle. It would stop and would not start again for about and hour. After starting it would run for about twenty min. It would then stop again. I changed the fuel pump with a new one and it did the same thing. It appears there is no solution for this problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10451355, filed 2012-03, 165,000 miles

“Vehicle is having a difficult time starting. Consumer feels that it is related to the gas line. Dealer has been contacted. Owner has been smelling gasoline odor off and on for 6 weeks. Has not started on several occassions over the last 6 months. Taken to ed morris Cadillac (ken fagan)”

NHTSA complaint #10050421, filed 2009-06, 66,500 miles

“Recall 04v110000 concerning fuel rail failure. While filling the gas tank consumer smelled a strong odor of fuel. A mechanic examined the vehicle, and found that the fuel rail had pin holes, and needed replacement. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.”

NHTSA complaint #10079707, filed 2004-06, 110,000 miles

“The vehicle stalled without warning. When the consumer pulled over and lifted up the hood, he discovered that gasoline had leaked all over the engine. Dealer replaced leaking fuel rail assembly.”

NHTSA complaint #10014702, filed 2003-03, 90,000 miles

“I was notified of a safety recall on my 1997 Cadillac el dorado that tubing used in the fuel rail const. May degrade and crack. I was told it would be repaired at no charge. When I went to the dealer to have it done I was told that they possibly would have to replace the fuel pump, and I would have to pay for it. I feel this is completely unfair, I didn't create this problem and feel GM should have to make it safe by replacing it at no charge. Anyway! I thought I would let you know what is going on. Let me know if you can do anything. Thanks greg”
