“To Whom It May Concern at General Motors, I am writing to express my profound concern, disappointment, and fear following a recent experience with my Cadillac Escalade that has caused me to seriously question the safety, reliability, and future of the Cadillac brand. For important context, the first Cadillac Escalade my family owned was a 2012 model that we purchased used in Ann Arbor. At the time, when we encountered engine issues and various quality concerns, we attributed them to the fact that the vehicle was pre-owned. …”
NHTSA complaint #11713334, filed 2026-01“My 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV brakes on its own when Super Cruise is on. This happens in normal highway traffic with no vehicle, object or hazard in my path. The braking is sudden and hard. A vehicle behind me could hit me. On several occasions, a vehicle behind me had to brake hard / swerve to avoid a collision. I have a few cases captured on camera. The problem is intermittent. It first happened at about 15K miles in April 2025. Since then it has happened several times. I took the vehicle to nearby dealers 5-6 times for this issue. …”
NHTSA complaint #11772841, filed 2026-10“My 2023 Cadillac Escalade esv has been at the dealership countless times over the last 2 years with strange engine sounds, acceleration issues, 4 wheel drive would top working and I couldn't make turns without a grinding sound coming from under the hood, check engine light (with no issues seen/heard). The engine recall was passed in October even after our concern with the engine sounds and strange things occurring while driving. Last week my wife was driving on a 4 lane 70mph freeway with our son in the car at night and the car said press start again and then started slowing down. …”
NHTSA complaint #11712010, filed 2026-01“On September 24, 2024, my 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV stalled while I was driving in traffic and would not restart. I was unable to proceed normally at a green light, creating a risk of a rear-end or other collision. I have video footage of the vehicle unable to proceed. The authorized dealership documented a no-crank/no-start condition and found the engine assembly was seized. The engine assembly was replaced under warranty. Following the September 24 engine failure, the vehicle remained at the dealership through October 31, 2024 while the engine assembly was replaced under warranty. …”
NHTSA complaint #11769134, filed 2026-10“On 5/8/2024, at approximately 18,969 miles, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete loss of engine power while driving on the highway in the rain with my family inside. The engine died, the vehicle lost all propulsion creating an immediate and severe safety hazard. Dealer diagnosis revealed a catastrophic crankshaft main bearing failure, requiring a full engine replacement. Since the engine repair, the vehicle has exhibited persistent intermittent/unintended brake activation. …”
