“Smelled gas fumes coming from gas tank area. A mechanic told me that there is a leak in the gas tank area that needs to be replaced as soon as possible as this may ignite causing fire. We saw on line that there was indeed a recall of this car model for the same above cited reason.”

NHTSA complaint #10449828, filed 2012-02, 115,000 miles

“My 2000 Escalade started having a strong gas smell from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle has never been in an accident. The result was the vehicle had a cracked gas tank on the top. This vehicle has been garage keep for the past 2 years that I have had the vehicle with an electric hot water heater right beside the vehicle. The fumes could have exploded while driving or just sitting in our garage. Has this happened to others?”

NHTSA complaint #10113977, filed 2005-03, 80,886 miles

“2000 Escalade SUV fuel pump-three wires inside burning and melting together-my mechanic shop has part and other ones that he has replaced-we feel that one day there will be an explosion in fuel tank-spoke with one of your investagators a frank barris who told me to report this.”

NHTSA complaint #10054657, filed 2004-01, 82,000 miles

“Fuel tank leaks, has been replaced twice, I started complaining after the first month after the purchase of the vehicle. It would leak over 1/2 gallon of fuel. Gm and dealership keep making excuses of the problem and the odor. I have taken the vehicle in over 7 times in 3 years for the odor and leaking fuel. This has taken me away from work and numerous hours in scheduling for repairs. I am constantly worried about my safety in this vehicle. I am currently in a law suit with GM.”

NHTSA complaint #10010601, filed 2003-03, 150 miles

“Brake and fuel lines critically rusted. This is not a salt only issues. This is a material defect that Cadillac should be force to recall this is a potential life safety issue and should be taken very seriously.”
