“Failure of windshield wiper motor circuit board connector due to faulty design, I.e. Insufficient support of soldered wires, leading to fatigue crack of solder joints, then failure of motor operation. Two of two other owners of early 90's astros I spoke to had had the same complaint, and one of those had heard of others.”
NHTSA complaint #10050819, filed 2003-12, 150,000 miles“Front windshield wiper motor stops intermittently, especially in inclement weather. Restarting requires lightly tapping the motor with the wiper switch in the on position. Current GM recall (#03023) only includes 95-97 astros. Gm told me they expect 94's & 98's to be included in recall in near future. Owners with valid repair receipts will be reimbursed, according to my GM call.”
NHTSA complaint #10021420, filed 2003-06, 110,000 miles“I have a complaint on the windshield wiper harness. I own a 1994 chevy Astro van, the wiper motor seems to work on and off. I heard about a similar problem on the same year as my van but it only covers trucks. I would like to see an extencion to cover my vehicle as well. The recall is 98v150001”
NHTSA complaint #10005844, filed 2003-02, 60,000 miles“I was going around a sharp curve heading toward oncoming traffic when the steering would not correct. I went at no fault of mine up behind a mailbox headed straight toward a huge tree at which time god almighty had a hand on me no doubt, and veered barely to the left of tree, mailbox I damaged with mirror went up an embankment crossed ladies driveway, went upon another embankment and back down into ditch. The tie rod came completely off.”
NHTSA complaint #10073241, filed 2004-05, 141,700 miles“Windshield wipers do not function all of the time. May go off while working at anytime. Sometimes they do not come on at all. When you pound on the wiper motor they may start but will quit at anytime. This vehicle has the identical motor and circuit board as other vehicles which were repaired by the manufacturer.”
