“I have a 2006 AVEO. Every since we bought it when you apply the brake it speeds up. It does not do this all the time. This last time I almost t-boned a truck. I stopped it by turning off the key and just avoided a wreck. Have you had any other complaints about this? I contacted the dealer when this first happened and they said that nothing was wrong with the car. After what has happened with toyota I'm concerned.”

NHTSA complaint #10311166, filed 2010-02, 50,000 miles

“While driving at about 60 MPH on the freeway a car sped up on the left side of me while I was merging into the left lane, I swerved to the right but still had control of the car until all of a sudden the brake locked and the car shut off and started to spin out of control and almost flipped over. I did not stomp on the brake or turn the wheel very hard at all, the car seems very unbalanced when driving defensively which I believe could cause a car flip. Thank god the oncoming traffic stopped.”
