“I drove from work to lunch approx 2 miles. Parked the car, turned it off, got out to go inside to get lunch, when I came back and opened the car door there was smoke coming from the dashboard. I waited a minute to see if it would stop. It did not so called 911 to have the fire department come out. While waiting for the fire department, I saw flames and the whole dashboard area of the car caught on car.”

NHTSA complaint #10595650, filed 2014-06, 73,000 miles

“The same time the recall for daytime running lights module came my daytime running lights indicator started flashing and my airbag light came on. I took it to dealer to fix daytime running lights module, I also had airbag light check and they said the wiring harness melted and it cost me over $300.00 to fix. Is this connected to daytime running light module problem? If so I would like my money back! Let me know please.”

NHTSA complaint #10789800, filed 2015-11, 120,596 miles

“Arrived at a hotel five hours away from home, parked my car and could not get my key out of the ignition. Fortunately I had my spare key with me so I was able to lock the door. Took it to a dealership and it cost about $500 to fix. They said the problem was the ignition lock solenoid. I read a lot of similar cases with this model online and it is unfair that we all have to pay to fix this issue. Recall!”

NHTSA complaint #10592873, filed 2014-05, 88,000 miles

“Dash lights did not turn on when the headlights were turned on. Also, running lights did not turn on after my headlights were turned on (front and rear right). Left rear turn signal does not work. I was told by a mechanic this was due to the splice pack melting. He also informed me this was a known issue with Chevrolet AVEO's. This should be a manufacturers issue and not the owners if it is a known hazardous issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10669198, filed 2014-12, 111,334 miles

“My daytime running lights have pretty much never worked, I have always had to manually engage my lights otherwise the dtr lights would go for a few minutes then burn flicker and short out, only working when I turn the lights on the manual way. My back turn signal shorted out around early 2012. Not only did it stop working but it melted the light socket housing, making it so I had to replace the whole light socket. …”
