Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The turn signal/blinker often got stuck between bright and dim. When that happened the headlights would be off. When the switch got stuck the only way to turn the lights back on would be to pull the bright switch again. Twice when this happened the signal switch broke (I had it replaced once), leaving me stuck on the road with my headlights off at night. I had to take the car to the dealer to fix it.”

NHTSA complaint #706427, filed 1999-05

“When using the turn signals, smoke emitted from steering column; turn signal will automatically cancel, but flasher is still clicking under dash. Headlight dimmer switch also very intermittent, and headlights will go out when attempting to use bright lights or dim them.”

NHTSA complaint #780999, filed 1998-10

“Steering column, where the hazard lights are, white smoke comes up while driving. Can smell something burning. Speed doesn't matter when incident occurs. Also, the more turn signal is used the more burning, dealer has not been notified of problem.”

NHTSA complaint #827647, filed 1998-09

“While driving, steering column emits smoke due to screws being screwed into wiring, causing rear flasher's to short out since wires and screw were touching. Tt”

NHTSA complaint #961498, filed 1995-03

“While driving noticed white smoke coming from steering column where flasher switch is located, replace turn signal and flasher switch in 92, problems back. Tt”

NHTSA complaint #960694, filed 1995-02
