1991: “Thought it was my alternator it checked to be good then I bought a battery then changed the fuze and the car is still dyeing the battery gage still goes all the way down then the turn signal switch that turns the turn signal off and on smoke was coming out of the steering wheel column when it was on and now the sound of the turn signal stays on when the turn signal is off and both turn signals are flashing at the same time when its in the off position no fire just smoke.”

1989: “On jan,9 2003 I bought a 1989 chevy Beretta with 90000 miles on it for the sum of 2300.00 dollars. On march 31 2003 I was driving down the interstate when the vehicle burst into flames. The fire marshal told me that the fire was caused by a factory defect in the rear window defroster.”

NHTSA complaint #10014004, filed 2003-04, 93,314 miles

1996: “My 1996 Chevrolet Beretta has had chronic leaking problems around the lower intake manifold. First it was from various bolts, then from the main gasket even though the car only has 75k miles on it. I called car shops in the area and everyone I spoke to said this was a common problem with the GM 3.1l engines. It's ridiculous that there is a faulty gasket in these cars that costs about $600-800 to replace, but there is no recall.”
