NHTSA complaint #10047055, filed 2003-11“I run a car dealership and I want to file a complaint about the two cables on Chevrolet full size pickups that secure the tailgate on 99-02 models. I have seen hundreds of these trucks where the cables have failed and broke. There is no way that those cables are strong enough to keep from breaking with a little added weight such as a child or an adult. They are as dangerous of a design as I have ever seen. Plus, I am tired of paying for these cables on every truck that comes in to my lot for resale. They are way to expensive to replace. A cable that should cost $4 or $5 cost over $30. …”
