“I was driving home this morning and a deer jumped out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and the engine shutoff. Making the power brakes and steering shutoff. Extremely dangerous not to mention if there is no power most likely the airbags will not deploy. A serious issue for a car that is less than 6 years old with around 80,000 miles on it. Just a disclaimer it is an automatic so there is no clutch.”
NHTSA complaint #10919062, filed 2016-10, 80,000 miles“Brand new car with brake problem....not covered under warranty???? What is going on here!!! I bought my Cobalt ss 2010 brand new and start having problem with my brake system right away and GM is telling me then it's cause by debris on the road. Something must be done here quick.”
NHTSA complaint #10366829, filed 2010-11, 1,000 miles“2010 Chevrolet Cobalt ss. Very loud brake squeal coming to a stop 20km and under (louder than a city bus). This has occurred consistently from 2500km. The car has been in the shop a dozen times, every time they machine the brakes and tell me the squeal is normal for high end brakes. I have driven porches, high end performance vehicles like sti's, 350z's, s2000's even high end bmw's, corvettes and ferraris, none of which have a normal squeal.”
NHTSA complaint #10369174, filed 2010-12, 2,500 miles“Vehicle became hard to steer and lost power and the brakes would not work. Nothing on the car would work and finally I was unable to fight the wheel anymore and the car flipped. None of the airbags deployed. I think than an investigation for the newer models of the Cobalt be done as well. From the description that was given for the suit that is now ongoing with the GM ignition problem, my car did the exact same thing. We could have been killed in this accident,. I have photos of the vehicle. It was horrible.”
NHTSA complaint #10568815, filed 2014-03, 58,000 miles“I notice as I was driving that my brake lights would stay on when I am not pushing on the brake. It does not matter the speed that I am going. But when I do push on the brakes the lights go off, which I don't think should be happening since the driver behind me will not know that I am stopping. This is something that I don't think this should be happening on a car that was 2 years old at the time this started. I have been told by my dealership that other customer have complained about the same issue.”
