NHTSA complaint #10567462, filed 2014-03, 150 miles

“During the process of starting the vehicle: first attempt to start the vehicle, it didn't start. The second attempt to start the vehicle, there was a loud bang (explosion) under the hood with an odor of 'burnt plastic'. Upon looking at the engine, the black plastic intake maniford had a hole it from the explosion. This is the second occurrence in 3 months. I have replaced this intake this past winter and this occurred again last weekend. It seems in my research that GM is ignoring this defect and will not offer a fix to the problem. …”

“Had to charge battery so I could take car in for ignition recall. Since I don't use the car much anymore. Upon trying to start vehicle, engine backfired and upper intake manifold exploded and pieces all over the driveway. This is the same issue as described in the 2004 recall which was performed on the fuel pressure regulator. Since the recall. I did have to replace the fuel pressure regulator again around 2011. I also had replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets that were faulty oem parts. The upper plastic manifold was replaced to the newer design. …”
