“I have 2001 Chevrolet 2500 hd 4x4 crew cab short box, with a 5 speed allison automatic with push button 4 wheel drive on the dash. At 117,000 miles my transfer case went out leaving me stranded luckily only 30 miles from home. Now at 279,000 miles my transfer case goes out again this time leaving me stranded on the wv turnpike. I realize the vechile has high miles on it mostly from towing campers and mostly all highway miles. The total 4 wheel drive miles can't be over 200 miles. …”

NHTSA complaint #10136813, filed 2005-09, 18,600 miles

“The engine sputtered, misfired then stalled, the dealership indicated it was due to corrosion on the distributor cap and replaced the cap and the rotor button, they also indicated it was a common problem and the corrosion was due to the air conditioner hose on top of the distributor cap which leaked water.”

NHTSA complaint #10009153, filed 2003-02, 19,438 miles

“The engine sputtered and misfired, then stalled and would not restart. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Was told that water off the A/C hose was dripping down on the distributor and had short circuited the computer. Dealer replace distributor cap and rotor. Then dealer put foam insulation over hose to keep water from dripping down into distributor. Was told by dealer that this was a common problem with all 4.3 liter engines, due to poor routing of A/C hose. G.m. Needs to recall these engines and reroute A/C hose.”

NHTSA complaint #10018705, filed 2003-05, 13,150 miles

“In july 2001, we purchased a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado (oklahoma package) from lawrence marshall Chevrolet. In may 2002, at approximately 20,000 miles, the air conditioner compressor shorted out the distributor cap which stopped the engine from turning over. Lawrence marshall fixed it under factory warranty at that time and considered it completely fixed. In may 2003, at approximately 40,000 miles, the same condition was fixed by lawrence marshall and because they considered it a factory defect, they fixed it for nothing. Now the same thing has happened at 60,000 miles on the same vehicle. …”
