Example complaints

Latches, locks and linkages: “Inside driver's side door handle broke 5/2006. No replacement available until 8/31/06, and according to the dealer no other way to repair. My concern? First, I cannot open the door once I get inside and second, if there should be a fire, there is no way I will ever get out. This vehicle, for those reasons, is unusable for 3 months.”

NHTSA complaint #10160414, filed 2006-06, 12,000 miles

Electrical system: “Speedometer cluster on my 2005 Chevrolet SSR malfunctioned. Dealer and GM service refused to fix it under extended warranty. I also have a 2003 avalanche that had same problem and dealer did fix it. I don't know how fast I am going as the speedometer reads 80 MPH when I am at a stop sign.”

NHTSA complaint #10330949, filed 2010-05, 10,579 miles

Body and structure: “My 2005 SSR drivers inside door handle failed. Unable to open door from inside. From what I hear this has been a common problem on these vehicles. Unable to locate parts and a long wait if they are found. Seems to be a safety problem when I can't get out of my vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10436029, filed 2011-11, 24,233 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “The engine rattles at any RPM. Check engine light p0430 indicates failed catalytic converter (GM dealer verified). First time it happened was at 15000 miles in 2011, happened again now in 2014 at 47000 miles. When replaced at 15000 miles, it was covered under federal warranty 8yr/80000miles. Now Chevrolet refuses to cover the cost ($1600 for the part, est. $300 in labor). Dealership manager offered to do all the work under a $500 'customer deductible'. I accepted the offer and was told the part is on back order. …”
