“The anti-lock brakes on my 1995 chevy Tahoe are activating spuriously at slow speeds when braking. This typically happens as I approach a traffic light or stop sign or when parking in a lot. This activation causes an increased stopping distance. It has not resulted in an accident at this time, but I could see how it could. From some online research it appears that it is a known problem with rusting of the speed sensors. It would seem to me that this is a manufacturer problem for which a recall should be initiated to fix.”

NHTSA complaint #10264331, filed 2009-04, 135,000 miles

“Excessive corrosion on poorly coated/treated brake lines LED to a failure to stop at a stop sign and allowed the vehicle to coast into traffic at an intersection on a busy major highway. Use of downshifting, the emergency brake, and shifting into 4wd was the only way a major accident was avoided. The rear drum brakes were not strong enough to compensate for the compromised line in the front.”

NHTSA complaint #10563799, filed 2014-02, 95,000 miles

“While trying to stop suddenly the antilock brakes activated on a clean surface extending the stopping distance and subsequently running into vehicle stopped. Speed 30 miles an hour activated ABS and impact at 15-25 MPH.”

NHTSA complaint #10138520, filed 2005-10, 107,000 miles

“Vehicle has anti-lock brakes with a spongy brake pedal. Consumer replaced every part of the brakes, except the brake booster and the kelsey-hayes anti-lock brake module. Vehicle has no brake pressure. The pedal goes to the floor.”

NHTSA complaint #10071692, filed 2004-06, 90,000 miles

“When the consumer approached a traffic jam, and applied the brakes, the rotors scattered all over the road, and made it extremely hard to stop. The vehicle was inspected three weeks prior to incident. The consumer requested compensation from GM.”

NHTSA complaint #567491, filed 2002-09, 126,000 miles
