Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The rear driver side window became inoperable, followed by the entire door (it won't open at all). Then, the rear passenger side door wouldn't open from the inside, followed by the driver door and recently the passenger door. The driver door, front and rear passenger doors can only be opened by rolling the window down and opening the door from the outside handle. We noticed that around the same time the doors went out, so did the back brake light panels (replacing the bulbs and housing units don't make a difference). …”

NHTSA complaint #10652251, filed 2014-11, 120,000 miles

“My battery failure was same as power failure that newspaper said NHTSA was investigating. I still have battery which will show why vehicle loses power. I also know of one more exact same failure with a suburban which probably has'nt been reported. The cargo door hinges are another failure that gmc refuses to address and blames it on poor maintinence by the owner.”

NHTSA complaint #724440, filed 2000-06

“This report regards a Chevrolet Tahoe 4 door truck which I purchased new. During the past 16 months both interior door handles ( the left and right front doors) have snapped off rendering that door inoperable when attempting to exit the vehicle. It appears that this is a safety defect since the possiblity exists that these door handles could fail at any time in an emergency. I have been required to replace these door handles at my expense and I was informed by the Chevrolet dealer ( hustedt Chevrolet of floral park, n.y.) that the door handle failure is a common problem with these vehicles.”
