Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Blown head gasket after only around 54,000 miles - mechanic said that the car shouldn't suffer from such problems at such a young age. Chrysler corporation notified but refused to help saying the car is out of warranty. In addition, the car suffers from significant engine noise when idling and the air conditioner just went out. While I understand that the car is out of warranty, I am very disapointed in the quality of Chrysler's product and the company's unwillingness to stand by their automobiles.”

NHTSA complaint #712807, filed 1999-10

“According to the shop who is working on my airconditioning, the hose is on backorder nationwide. They said the dealer said it is almost a recall because the air cond hoses are failing so often that they can't get them in stock.”

NHTSA complaint #750410, filed 2001-08

“Water would get inside of vehicle on passenger's side when it was raining or vehicle being washed. Also, horn & cd player failed to work due to possible moisture inside of apparatus. Took vehicle back to dealer & horn/air bag was replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #876912, filed 2000-12

“Air conditioner evaporator quit working at 86,000 miles. I am unable to read the mileage on the car . The odometer is not lit up. The tachometer is not working either.”

NHTSA complaint #745568, filed 2001-05

“Consumer has had several problems with vehicle. Brakes do not work, they grind and the pads keep wearing and have to be replaced, dealer stated the problem was with the calipers. Water is leaking into the vehicle due to sunroof being cut too short during recall 99i004, consumer feels there might have been previous problems with water leaking due to a rusted fuse. Speedometer does not work. There is a transmission leak. Air conditioner does not work. Engine light is illuminated. Windows still don't work properly. Mirrors do not work properly after recall 97v015. …”
