“I have replaced 8 tires so far in the 7 months I have owned the car...3 local mechanics blame problem on soft aluminum wheels or manufacturer defect in wheels (tires are not to blame).”
NHTSA complaint #10016671, filed 2003-04, 42,000 miles“On december 18,2003 , one the wheels (rims) on my wife's car bent and caused the tire to deflate very repidly and almost caused her to loose control and cause an accident. In 2002 the same thing had happened with another of the wheels. The car had to be towed after the 2003 incident. While having the wheel replaced it was found out that two other wheels were bend and in need of replacement. My wife found out from other customers at the tire place that several other people had the same bad experience with the same type Sebring. …”
NHTSA complaint #10052612, filed 2004-01, 84,000 miles“I was driving straight down the street at about 30 or less MPH. I had just picked up my babies from school and the tire came completely off of my car . We fell to the ground very hard stuck in the middle of the road the whole arm that holds my tire on or the front end ball joints came off as well . Their was no warning signs the tire and all of its parts came apart some how .”
NHTSA complaint #10432734, filed 2011-10“Wheels on this car are too soft and bend easily. When bent badly enough, they lose the seal on the tire and cause a blowout. So far I've had 9 wheels fail, with one blowout, 5 flat tires. My tire dealer tells me this is the #1 replaced wheel in the nation, with #2 very far behind. Chrysler and their dealer both refuse any assistance.”
NHTSA complaint #10025190, filed 2003-06“Please add VIN# to complaint I filed earlier. I would appreciate a reply from you. This is a serious safety issue, and it's only a matter of time before someone has a blowout and a major wreck. Chrysler needs to recall these wheels, and I believe they know it but are ignoring the customers.”
