Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Complete speedometer failure while vehicle is being driven. Loss of all data regarding speed vehicle is traveling, and at times, all information from the engine temperature gauge and fuel gauge. Issues with NEON speedometers are widely published on the internet. I am shocked to see that there has never been a recall for such a well documented vehicle failure.”

NHTSA complaint #10158717, filed 2006-05, 96,780 miles

“While driving there was a noise, then the dashboard lights went out. When the lights went out, the dashboard components became inoperative. The dashboard lights came back on within 15-30 seconds, but all the warning lights stayed illuminated for a few seconds before going off. This failure was caused by an electrical system failure, but dealership nor manufacturer were very helpful.”

NHTSA complaint #10073697, filed 2004-05, 70,000 miles

“Sun roof glass came of the track and will not open or close. The track was replaced three times. The sunroof would drag and make knocking noises. The vehicle also experienced a battery problem and oil leaks which had come from the cylinder head.”

NHTSA complaint #10055505, filed 2004-04, 46,124 miles

“My NEON has been repaired for spark plugs, engine misfires, check engine light triggered, brakes are very noisy but according to dealership-need no replacement, sunroof repaired twice; it fell off track and wouldn't shut in the middle of winter, recently the head gasket is leaking; windows leak air, oxygen sensor needed repair, warranty has paid for itself plus more.....I am waiting for the next problem.”

NHTSA complaint #740076, filed 2001-01

“For as much as I pay per month on this vehicle, it has been nothing but constant problems. I am a single mom and cannot afford to have my only vehicle in the shop every time I turn around. It seems that most of my problems are common in the neons. No afety defect listed in the summary.”
