“My wife was driving our 2000 Dodge dakota quad cab in a parking lot when the lower driver side ball joint failed causing a crash into a concrete pole at the driver side door. There were no unusual noises before the failure and the upper ball joints had been replaced this year as part of the recall on all dakotas. This caused my wife to hit her head on the driver side window on impact.”

NHTSA complaint #10145261, filed 2005-12, 68,735 miles

“While having the front passenger side tire check by the dealership because it was balled. The dealership noticed that the wheel bearing lubrication had depleted. This resulted in the hub developing rust and the axle seizing.”

NHTSA complaint #10066665, filed 2004-04, 58,000 miles

“Dodge RAM 3500 has poor directional control when traveling at speeds greater than 50 MPH. Consumer cannot find a dealership that can examine and correct the defect. Consumer feels this vehicle is dangerous to be operated on road because consumer has to have both hands on steering wheel at all times. Consumer states dealer has made an adjustment that did not help.”

NHTSA complaint #887496, filed 2001-05

“Nhtsa recall campaign 04v596000; daimler chrysler issued a front upper ball joint recall. This vehicle was not included in the recall, but had the upper ball joints making a clicking noise, which sounded like they were going to fall off.”

NHTSA complaint #10113420, filed 2005-03

“While operating vehicle at any speed it is difficult to maintain control. Dealership has examined vehicle, and replaced steering gear box and aligned the wheels. Also, consumer has replaced the tires. Problem has not been effectively remedied. Please provide any additional information / attachments.”
