“This has been a problem on and off for 2 years. Dealer unable to find problem. While driving our 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 pick up this last weekend, as we accelerated in traffic, the truck engine choked and then began to stall. We had just turned on to the highway when the engine power began to fail for the fifth time. We were almost hit by on coming traffic due to the engine failure .”

NHTSA complaint #10182448, filed 2007-02, 25 miles

“When you let off the gas to slow down the engine cut off and lost power steering. It has happened 10 times in 2 years, but the last time it happened I was about to turn right; I hit a sign and scratched the whole right side of the truck. Dodge claimed we can't fix it because we don't know what is causing it.”

NHTSA complaint #10187631, filed 2007-04, 850 miles

“Purchased a 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 on a 3-year lease. The vehicle has 24,000+/- miles. During the last of jan. 2008 the engine in the vehicle started knocking. I took the vehicle back to the leasing dealer on february 4, 2008. The next day or so, I received a phone call from the dealer service rep. Wanting proof of oil changes. I explained that I would not be able to provide receipt's since I do the oil & filter changes myself. I am a farmer and have my own pit built specifically for that purpose. …”

“I have an 05 Dodge 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. It has always idled low but dealer says otherwise. It starts out as a engine sputter then it dies leaving no power steering or brakes. The last time this happened I was in rush hour traffic with both lanes turning left. Very dangerous to drive. I don't feel safe with my children and wife driving this vehicle. I took it to the dealer and paid 300 for a sensor. Drove fine for a day then started doing the same thing. This has happened many times. Found many other people with same problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10184082, filed 2007-03, 60,000 miles

“2005 Dodge RAM 1500 stalls when making turns. This started when the truck had about 12k miles and seems to be getting worse. I have taken to the dealership, and told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Of course now it has 43k and is out of warranty so I cannot afford to take for $100 diagnostic everytime truck stalls, just to be told nothing is wrong. This is very dangerous because the steering and brakes are almost non existent when this happens and it usually happens when making a turn. I just hope that it doesn't happen in heavy traffic. …”
