Example complaints

Body and structure: “Dashboard cracked and split in the 2001 Dodge Stratus Coupe. Also my wife' s 2002 Dodge, stratus had the same problem. Pieces fell into the vents and rattled. So far there have been no major failures, but we have heard of people with the same cars having the same problems, and some had electrical failures when the dash board collapsed.”

NHTSA complaint #10190262, filed 2007-05, 60,000 miles

Engine cooling: “First off, I bought this car from my sister...the ball joint broke on me within a month...probably not her fault. However the car was making a lot of noises and clanks and creaks, I was told it was just the bushings, guess I found out it wasn't the hard way. About a month after the ball joint was replaced the rear strut broke and was rubbing the inside of the rear passenger tire. …”

NHTSA complaint #10435400, filed 2011-11, 16,000 miles

Other or unknown: “I bought the car used from a Dodge dealer with only about 4000 miles on it. A few years later and the clear coat has faded from the hood, roof and trunk. It looks terrible. I've had 2 other black cars in the past: a chevy and a pontiac and neither of them faded one bit. And the chevy was an '85 camaro. Love the way the Dodge drives but it looks very bad.”

NHTSA complaint #10180708, filed 2007-01, 44,000 miles

Transmission and drivetrain: “Manual 5-speed transmission on my 2001 Dodge stratus r/t has lost reverse. It has only 56000 miles and I have found, through research, that tis transmission produced by mitsubishi has a very high failure rate. I have had problems with 2nd gear grinding since new.”
