“I own a 2009 Ducati sport classic gt1000. I have put 2,500 miles on the bike and the fuel tank bowed outward and no longer attaches to the frame of my bike. Causing the fuel tank to become extremely wobbly and loose. This bike has never been in any accidents. This seems to be a common defect with Ducati fuel tanks.”
NHTSA complaint #10334092, filed 2010-06, 2,500 miles“I'm resubmitting this complaint as I'm under the impression my previous one for the same cause was not filed. Issue is I noticed a deformed/loose fuel tank on my brand new, 2009 Ducati gt 1000 motorcycle upon delivery from the dealership. The tank has expanded and is no longer secured by it's two front brackets (two of the three securing points for the fuel tank). The tank moves/wobbles approx half and inch to the left or right, and a single rear bolt is keeping it on the motorcycle. …”
NHTSA complaint #10371114, filed 2010-12, 10 miles“I purchased a 2009 Ducati sport classic gt about 4 months ago from munroe motors in san francisco. That model is prone to the plastic fuel tank deforming and spreading, causing it to sometimes become loose enough to almost fall off. This has now happened to my motorcycle. The motorcycle has been used normally and cared for. I will be contacting munroe motors to replace it under warranty. As I understand it, there is no permanent fix so it likely will happen again. The dangers or having a loose fuel tank on a motorcycle are obvious. …”
NHTSA complaint #10296342, filed 2009-12, 700 miles“2009 Ducati gt 1000 fuel tank mount problems: the fuel tank has apparently stretched out in width to such an extent that the front mount no longer secures the tank. As a consequence the tank is loose and held in place only by the rear securing bolt, which is totally inadequate and wasn't designed to hold the tank on its own. I feel this is a very dangerous situation and a potential death trap.”
NHTSA complaint #10307700, filed 2010-02, 343 miles“Gas tank has deformed causing it to become loose from the frame to the point it had to be secured with straps. I have owned the motorcycle (purchased new) for 19 months and in that time the gas tank has been replaced twice due to this deformation.”
