Example complaints
Fuel system: “I purchased my 2007 Ducati MONSTER S4RS motorcycle new, taking delivering in april, 2007. Over the past year, I have encountered increasing difficulty in releasing and refastening the latch that holds the fuel tank in place on the motorcycle. Upon closer examination, I discovered that the fuel tank has expanded, and the tank no longer fits properly on the motorcycle frame. …”
NHTSA complaint #10282373, filed 2009-08, 10,000 milesBody and structure: “My 2007 Ducati s4rs motorcycle fuel tank swelled to the point it was not resting securely on the frame, the bars would contact it before full left or right turning movement, it pushed against the ignition switch causing the fuel tank latch to not engage, and the paint cracked off. Ducati unofficially claims (learned from my dealer) that ethanol in american gas is causing the problem. I am worried about the potential for fuel seepage and fire along with the tank becoming dislodged while riding.”
NHTSA complaint #10351474, filed 2010-08, 5,000 milesElectrical system: “Just after servicing the motorcycle at 600 miles it stalled while shifting into gear. There was no problem prior to the service. The motorcycle totally shut down when shifting into gear. Primarily, first gear 5 times and once going into second gear, and it was almost rear-ended twice the day I rode it after the service. I have only ridden it the once and will not ride this motorcycle now because of the safety concerns. I have been in contact with the dealer, but have not resolved the problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #10191206, filed 2007-05, 675 milesEngine cooling: “The contact owns a 2007 Ducati MONSTER S4RS. Since october of 2006, the contact's engine has been stalling. While idling at a stop, the vehicle's engine failed. The contact stated that the failure occurs between 0 and 25 MPH. Once the vehicle accelerates beyond 25 MPH, it operates normally. The contact has taken his vehicle in to have the throttle position sensor and throttle bodies/servo motor replaced because water was seeping into the connection and caused it to corrode. The vehicle was kept for two and a half weeks to be repaired, but failed again four weeks later. …”
