“The vehicle went over a puddle of water and lost control.. Driver's side seat belt unfastened at that point. Vehicle then rolled over four times. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Driver was ejected through the windshield, and sustained a broken collar bone and three broken ribs. Also passenger in the front seat sustained internal head and back injuries.”

NHTSA complaint #10042868, filed 2003-10, 120,000 miles

“The drivers seat belt will no longer engage. It was not damaged or missused in any way. I contacted the dealer informed me it was not a waranteed item. I feel the dealer should replace the belt as it is a great safety hazard. I do not know if this has occurred in other vehicles but felt I should report it.”

NHTSA complaint #713976, filed 1999-10

“Front seatbelt malfunctioned, causing the seatbelt not to retract, which won't protect the occupant in event of a crash. Also, airbag light came on, indicating a problem with the air bag system. Ford/dealer have refused to cover the repair of either mechanism.”

NHTSA complaint #857561, filed 2000-02

“Driver's seat belt has two feet tension. Upon tugging on the shoulder harness, it will not retract to secure occupant. Also during a panic stop belt retraction is null and void. This has resulted in injuries during a vehicle accident. (1989 Aerostar injuries shoulder and neck.”

NHTSA complaint #813400, filed 1997-06
