“My steering shaft locked up on the highway. I almost could not turn the vehicle. It took much force to break it free. Made it home and started to diagnose it. First, I thought the rack & pinion failed. But it turned out to be fine. It appears that the steering intermediate shaft is the failure. This is the parts between the steering column and the rack & pinion. I replaced it with Ford part number 8l1z-3b676-a. This new part appears to be a redesigned shaft from Ford. I researched the internet a little with similar problems. Their appears to be many associated with the same failure. …”

“We purchased a 2007 Expedition limited from don chalmers Ford in santa fe new mexico on july 21, 2007. We had this SUV for less than 2 weeks when the power steering and the rack and pinion failed. I was backing out of a tight parking space when I felt the SUV sort of thump. Within 500 feet, as I was leaving the parking lot, the power steering was completely gone. After taking it to the nearest dealership, the service representative said that the rack and pinion was blown. This is our 2nd Expedition (we owned a 2001 eddie bauer). …”

“Out of the blue the vehicle starts braking really hard, making loud banging noise, and shaking. It used to be once in a great while but now it's everytime I drive my vehicle ,sometimes I can't stop my vehicle. This is very dangerous in traffic. I've taken to the Ford dealership multiple times yet my problem persists.”
