“Today I replaced the second tire from a set of four lt275/70r18e1 bfg commercial t/a a/s tires purchased on november 23, 2010. Both tires were replaced with less than 30,000 miles of wear because of tread separation. Fortunately, in both cases the issue was discovered before catastrophic failure. The separation events happened about 3,000 miles apart. Because of the dangers of tread separation, I went ahead and replaced the other two tires on the vehicle. …”

“Driving texas highway 183 near bertram tx, rf drivers side bf goodrich baja champion truck tire exploded causing vehicle to serve into oncoming traffic, I recovered. Tire exploded with great force causing the outer tread to dislodge causing 4000 dollars damage to f250. The tire spilt into two exposing the wire steel belts. The belts look as of they were ripped apart similar to ied explosions experienced in persian gulf. It was cool that saturday in the mid to upper 80's. Almost killed me as the vehicle fell to the rim immediately after catastrophic failure.”

“Within the last 2 weeks I have had tread separation on 2 of my truck tires. I was able to discover the problem before a complete failure due to abnormal vibration and subsequent inspection. These were continental contitrac lt275 65r18 tires on my Ford f250. Dot p5b9 1vub with no apparent manufacture date code. The first failure occurred at 24554 miles and the second at 26000 miles. The tires were carefully maintained, the vehicle stored indoors and never off road. The dealership replaced the first with a replacement DOT a3b9 479b 4710. …”

NHTSA complaint #10406890, filed 2011-06, 24,552 miles

“One of 4 continental contitrac lt 275/65 r 18 tires, DOT # p5b9 1vub, has multiple (14+) tiny air leaks through the tread of the tire. There is no apparent damage to the tire or tread. The tires have just under 30,000 miles on them. They are the original equipment tires that came with my 2008 Ford f250 2wd manual transmission diesel crew cab pick up which was purchased new.”

NHTSA complaint #10417121, filed 2011-08, 29,750 miles

“Driving along a rural road at 50 MPH, truck began to shake, could barely hold it in the road. Had tires checked at crossroads Ford where truck was purchased just 5 months ago. Was told that continental had recalled called tires on 2008 f250 trucks but tires on this truck were not part of the recall. Contratrac p515 46u0 3207. Very dangerous to drive. Crossroads Ford offered to sell us more tires. Unsure what to do.”
