“As I started my car to leave, the parking brake would not release right (went down to the floor), the brake light was displayed on the dash, and I could tell the parking brakes were still engaged. Since the parking brakes were still engaged, my rear wheels were locked up. My car therefore was not drivable. There was no prior warning of this problem for my Ford 2006 Five Hundred. I have not been informed of any recalls from Ford motor company due to this problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10525318, filed 2013-07, 80,000 miles“I took my Ford 500 in for the rear brake recall, they replaced the pads ,but the rotors were within limits,so they turned them down. Now when it comes time for normal brake replacement,I will probably have to replace the rotors on my own. In other words, Ford only gave me a set of pads, which sure is a cheap way out.”
NHTSA complaint #10231200, filed 2008-06, 23,324 miles“I have had to have the rear brakes changed twice since owning my 2006 Ford 500 since it was new. I have 45,000 miles on the vehicle. Front brakes are still 75% good. I believe Ford has a design flaw and should have a national recall.”
NHTSA complaint #10268318, filed 2009-05, 22,000 miles“This is in regard to a 2006 Ford Five Hundred with rear brake grinding. I received a notice ( 07n10)from Ford motor company july 2007 . It stated that my vehicle may have had direct exposure to moisture for an extended period that may have caused the brake pads to swell and create a slight drag condition. Low levels of brake drag could lead to premature brake pad wear. At 36,000 miles the rear brakes began to grind . The rear brake pads and rotors were replaced at no charge . …”
NHTSA complaint #10200385, filed 2007-08, 38,000 miles“1st issue: when the vehicle is at a stop light, the car feels like it's going to jump forward even while the brake is depressed. I worry about rear-ending the car in front of me. Then when the car is in park, the car begins to rev or idle high as if the accelerator has been pressed. 2nd issue: while in park or driving at low speeds of 30-35mph, the instrument panel quits working and the A/C stops as if the car was turned off. It'll then come back on and will continue to come on and off. The bad thing is that the hazard lights won't even work. There's no warning. …”
