“I was driving down a country road and had just dropped my kids off thank goodness. Nothing seemed to be wrong when all of a sudden the engine revved high. I was try'n to look to see what was go'n on when I wrecked into the ditch about 60mph. Out of nowhere the transmission failed and was stuck n a ditch and no one to help.”

NHTSA complaint #10631724, filed 2014-09, 150,000 miles

“I own a 2006 Ford Freestar and as of jan 9 2012 they have recalled 04-05 for the transmission blowing up! Torque converter ,pump and output shaft to give you the pats! My family was in the van on the 400 hwy driving on jan 22 2012 with two children and my van shouts down no control, driving 105-110 in the middle lane.. …”

NHTSA complaint #10445686, filed 2012-01, 110,760 miles

“We were driving in the middle of no where with my family (2 children - 9mos and 3 years old) in the back seat and out of no where the van will not go forward and will not go back. It was like it was simply thrown into neutral. We had to wait over an hour on the side of the road with my small children to get a tow truck as well as wait for someone to come get us! The van was driving just fine, no issues, no warning the transmission just failed.”

NHTSA complaint #10607780, filed 2014-07, 130,000 miles

“I was driving the car when it suddenly stopped responding when pressing on the gas pedal. The vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. The engine was running, but the car would not move forward or reverse. Turns out it was the torque converter (transmission). It cost $1200 to repair. Very unusual for this to happen to a car with only 49000 miles. I googled the problem and got many hits. Ford had recalled the 2004 and 2005 models for this problem. Why not the 2006?”

NHTSA complaint #10553336, filed 2013-11, 49,000 miles

“My family had stopped to let pedestrians cross and when my husband pushed the gas pedal down to accelerate but it did not in gauge the drive. The van acted as if it was in neutral. The only gear that worked was reverse. I looked on-line to find that the Freestar '04 and '05 where both recalled for the same problem. Ford should take responsibility and issue a recall. My family( 4 children all under 5 years old) was lucky that it happened in a safe area. We where on our way home which requires us to use the freeway. …”
