“Abs and traction control lights come on and will not clear with a scan tool. There are 11 codes showing, all to do with ABS/traction control. Normal braking seems fine, not sure what will happen with a skid or loss of traction in ice or snow. I am told there is a recall on the brake system on this van. Do I need to be concerned about these warning lights?”

NHTSA complaint #10629255, filed 2014-08, 160,000 miles

“The ABS warning light comes on intermittently. Ford dealer said that the ABS module was failing, that it would work sometimes and sometimes not, until complete failure. Also told me it was safe to drive even if the ABS system did not function. I had the funds to pay for the repairs, the Ford dealer seemed reluctant to do them, so they did not fix it.”

NHTSA complaint #10534145, filed 2013-08, 123,000 miles

“The ABS controller for this vehicle has stopped functioning. This is a known defect with this model. The causes are either poor soldering on or damage from fluids to the controller's board. Without ABS, the vehicle is significantly less safe and I've experienced five incidents where I and my passengers narrowly escaped serious injury due to Ford's and the nhta's unwillingness to rectify this flaw.”

NHTSA complaint #10677031, filed 2015-01, 89,000 miles

“The ABS light comes on randomly while driving. Ford dealership determined that the ABS module was bad, and replacement would cost $1250, however, I would be safe driving it without the repair. The regular brakes would still function correctly, I just would not have the anti-lock brake system. Because the vehicle is 14 yrs old, I opted not to have the repair done at this time.”

NHTSA complaint #10491483, filed 2013-01, 123,000 miles

“My battery has been dying due to bad sensors, when I did get it started it became stuck high revving ,the car accelerated and smashed into the curb in front of me, and the brakes wouldn't work so even when I stepped on the brakes to put in reverse the car went flying into the curb behind me, I finally got the vehicle to a complete stop by pulling up the emergency brake. Then I had the car towed to my house.”
