“Last night at approximately 8:30 pm, a pleasant evening at about 65 degrees and a light rain; for no reason whatsoever the rear quarter (automated) window exploded on the drivers side. The glass was on the inside of the vehicles back and middle seats as well as in the driveway. Because I have seen several other complaints about this issue, I think this qualifies as a safety hazard because of the shards of glass flying everywhere; if there would have been anybody in the van this could have caused them serious injury. …”
NHTSA complaint #10715394, filed 2015-05, 136,000 miles“On 10/22/04 I dropped my child at school, and exiting the parking lot the left rear side window of my 2001 Windstar van exploded. I was in a school parking lot, traveling approximately 10 MPH. On 3/22/05 I was completely stopped at a traffic light with no-one behind my van when my back liftgate window exploded. The only commonality between these events was that both mornings were cool and the inside of the van had been warmed for 20-30 minutes.”
NHTSA complaint #10114499, filed 2005-03, 55,000 miles“7/21/2011 bought van from private party. Recall completed in march of 2011 regarding back axle. On 7/13/2012 8pm, my 18yr old son, while driving home from lacrosse practice, nearly killed. Upon pulling out onto the main road, he lost all controls, no steering, no brakes and no power. He coasted and prayed it would stop. I arrived, we called aaa. Flatbed to my home driver could not believe his eyes. The engine had fallen out. 7/16/12 called Ford in mich and spoke to rep. To be towed 13 miles away to route 23 auto at our expense. Really? Route23 wanted nothing to do with me (they did recall). …”
NHTSA complaint #10477821, filed 2012-09, 150,000 miles“While idling at red light the rear quarter panel window on the driver's side of my 2001 Ford Windstar exploded. Nothing struck the glass from inside or outside of the vehicle to trigger the explosion. Glass flew into the interior of the vehicle covering the rear seat where my children are normally sitting. Fortunately I had not yet picked them up from school. I have owned the vehicle for three years and to my knowledge there were no cracks or other damage to the window prior to the explosion. The vehicle and windows are generally in good repair. I still do not know the cause of the explosion. …”
NHTSA complaint #10397052, filed 2011-04, 190,000 miles“The door does not bounce back. My 2 year old daughter and myself got caught in the door while it was trying to close. My five year old had to push the button. I took the car to the manufacturer and they tested the door and said it was working fine. They said that is how the car is made. You have to have to put a lot force on the door in order for it to bounce back. There is no way to adjust the censors. There 2003 van requires even more pressure than mine. How is a 2 year old child suppose to apply a lot of pressure.”
