“Getting lean code p0171 and p0174. Dealer analyzed and from what I can tell it's TSB 03-16-1 (NHTSA sb# 16920) I have searched the internet (as you can) and it's a widespread problem (I know 2 other people personally who may have it). It is my belief that there should have been (or should be) a recall on this defect. In my case, the van will lose RPM's, then rev up on cold startup. When it does this, the van executes a jerking motion which to me could be dangerous. In other cases, it will stall or nearly stall at traffic lights.”
NHTSA complaint #10216496, filed 2008-01, 25,000 miles“Engine light came on, unable to pump gas, gas blow back when attempting to fill, takes several minutes and attempts to fill tank. Have taken it to several shops unable to find problem, engine light claims to be bleeding problem, have dropped tank, changed fill valve, fuel filter, fuel pump, 3 fuel caps and still have issue.”
NHTSA complaint #10449100, filed 2012-02, 95,000 miles“Cel came on..blew 02 sensor code. Replaced. Few days later cel came back on now with p0171 and p0174 codes. This is a massive know problem from doing an internet search and also searching this site even under other Windstar years. This is a very costly expensive and seems to be quite involved and there needs to be a recall on this.”
NHTSA complaint #10257130, filed 2009-02, 60,000 miles“During fueling the vehicle the fuel spills out of the filler neck and sprays all over the car and ground. The trouble seems to be in a tank vent hose problem. This seems like it creates a fire and health/safety problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10465769, filed 2012-07, 56,000 miles“2002 Ford Windstar. Engine warning light comes on. Test meter shows lean condition in bank 1 & 2. Resetting the mil light will work for a few days, then warning light comes on again. Engine runs well, no noticeable problems in driving. This has happened for at least 20,000 miles.”
