Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The transmission started slipping and went out on this vehicle with only 61,000 miles on it. I wrote to GM about it, and they did not respond to my complaint. The fuel pump also went out on this same vehicle at 51,000 miles. Gm is building vehicles of very poor quality and getting premium prices for their vehicles. I am tired of buying american built vehicles and getting junk.”

NHTSA complaint #10037346, filed 2003-09, 61,000 miles

“While passing at highway speeds the transmission failed. I was forced to either take to the ditch, run the guy off that I was trying to pass or have a head on collision. I took to a ditch to save my family and others. I had the transmission serviced at the dealer on 12/9/2003 and no problems were found. The transmission failed with no warning on 1/5/2004. Both a road side transmission shop and the dealer agreed that there is an ongoing problem with these transmissions. The problem is with the sun shell failing. …”

NHTSA complaint #10052565, filed 2004-01, 64,500 miles

“Service 4x4 light illuminating intermittently due to failure of selector button for the push button four wheel drive. Also due to failure of the switch vehicle will not go into four wheel drive and the light will illuminate. Gmc and chevrolet dealers are aware and know of several failures, and relay GM is doing nothing about it.”

NHTSA complaint #10030611, filed 2003-08, 85,000 miles

“Transmission slips and makes noise in the first gear at initial start from a dead stop. Vehicle has less than 50,000 miles. Contacted dealer and they said that all of them do it.”
