Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The dash is my truck has started to crack. From research on the internet I see this is a fairly common occurrence. The dealer said it is not covered although I have an extended warranty. I am unsatisfied with GM and feel this crack dash could be a hazard if an accident were to occur. I would love a compromise from GM to at least offer to pay some of the cost of replacement, if not all of it.”

NHTSA complaint #10661003, filed 2014-11, 47,000 miles

“2010 Gmc Sierra crew cab pick up truck. Dash panel cracked on upper right corner of passenger side air bag. Upper left corner cracked a couple of weeks later. Gmc refuses to admit that there's a problem even though the cracked dash panels have been documented on several different message board and facebook groups.”

NHTSA complaint #10676951, filed 2015-01, 38,000 miles

“Vehicle has cracked dash in area of passenger air bag which could possibly cause shrapnel if airbags are deployed. This problem is common and there are thousands of people with this crack in the exact same area as mine. Contacted GM and they refuse to acknowledge a problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10712315, filed 2015-04, 103,000 miles

“Dashboard is getting a large crack in it either due to stress or sun heating and cooling(expansion/contraction). This is a pleasure vehicle, no work, nothing ever put on the dashboard. Concern that airbag may not deploy properly.”

NHTSA complaint #10574143, filed 2014-03, 55,000 miles

“In december 2013 the passenger exterior door handle came off & a few days later exterior driver back door handle came off. The dealership did replace both handles under warranty. However, while we there another man came in with the same problem on his Gmc Sierra. In october 2014, the exterior driver door handle came off. Dealer replacing but charging customer $200+. Service person indicated they have had numerous issues with the handles on Gmc sierras breaking, as recent as the last month or so. In internet search this seems to be a prevalent problem with the Gmc Sierra. …”
