Example complaints
Fuel system: “After fuel fill up or in normal operation I have erratic and inaccurate fuel gauge reading. At first the gauge wouldn't read any fuel level and after running the self test would operate normally. The gauge appeared to be working, but during a ride it stopped functioning and I ran out of fuel not knowing how much fuel I had. I was able disengage the engine and coast to clear traffic. The errors first occurred about april 2009 and would reappear infrequently. …”
NHTSA complaint #10348380, filed 2010-08, 6,000 milesBrakes: “I was riding my 2006 hd Vrscr when I turned a corner at an intersection in a town. I attempted to slow down using my rear brake when the pedal went completely down against its hard stop. No braking occurred. It happened with about 15,000 miles on the bike. It only happened this one time. I was able to stop with the front brake alone. I inspected the rear brake master cylinder and found the rear brake light switch leaking brake fluid. I replaced the switch and the brakes again work. The failed part is not available.”
NHTSA complaint #10350183, filed 2010-08, 15,000 milesEngine cooling: “After work I started the engine and allowed it to warm up while I put on my protective riding gear (jacket, helmet, and gloves). The engine was running normally as I rode to the end of the parking lot slowly and stopped at the end of the lane. I began to turn to the right, releasing the clutch and rolling on the throttle while leaning when the engine suddenly lost all power resulting in a crash. After picking the bike up and resetting the ignition, it ran very roughly (as if running on one cylinder) and stalled. …”
