Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The transmission in my Honda Pilot broke at 100k miles. The same thing happened to my 2002 Honda odyssey and Honda covered the repair because they knew that there were defects. Well the same defects caused the Pilot's transmission to become fully inoperable. But this time Honda will not cover it. Please note that the Pilot and odyssey are made on the same platform and have the same parts. Honda knows they have a faulty transmission and won't extend the warranty as they have in the past.”

NHTSA complaint #10494371, filed 2013-01, 95,000 miles

“Transmission oil cooler leaked coolant into transmission stopping forward motion of vehicle wife was driving with young daughter left stranded on dark highway. A well known problem with this vehicle. Have read many incidents of this. Dealer passes cost of repair on to consumer Honda just ignores problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11025207, filed 2017-09, 103,000 miles

“Found transmission fluid leaking on floor and can see fluid on under side of vehicle. Technician found leak was from left side of transmission-due to casting spot in case allowing fluid to leak. Date of failure 12/12/2006. Mileage date of failure 572. Transmission was replaced .”

NHTSA complaint #10177202, filed 2006-12, 572 miles

“I experienced a sudden unintended acceleration while coming to a full stop at a traffic light. The vehicle kept accelerating around 5k RPM on it's own without pressing the gas pedal. I was able to stop the vehicle by engaging the emergency brake. I was very close to cause an accident today. My mechanic said there's no engine code and can't find anything wrong.”

NHTSA complaint #11504211, filed 2023-01

“Car would not respond during normal operation, was in gear but would not accelerate. After I was pushed to the side of the road, I restarted the engine. And was able to drive a block away to my home at a very reduced speed. It will now only run at a very low speed, therefore inoperable.”
