“While driving on a 2 lane country road with no shoulder to pull over on my speed dropped from 50 MPH to about 10mph. There was no response when I pressed the gas pedal. I had to have my car towed some 43 miles to the Hyundai dealer. The problem turned out to be that the throttle position sensor had failed. This failure, had it ocurred on a heavily traveled highway, could have resulted in following vehicles rearending my vehicle because of the sudden reduction in speed. I have reason to believe that the failure of this sensor is not uncommon on Hyundai vehicles.”
NHTSA complaint #10409638, filed 2011-06, 16,726 miles“Automobile surged, then went from 60+ MPH to 20+ MPH (limp along mode). No check engine light until 20 MPH mode was reached then check engine light came on just before car engine died. Esc system was activated during incident - potentially by sudden speed decrease?. Pulled over to side of road and had to be towed 45 miles to nearest dealer. Incident was 100+ miles from home with dealer tow - repair was 140 miles from home. Car mileage - 25,803. Dealer replaced throttle sensor and performed ECM update as a result of this visit. …”
