Example complaints

Electrical system: “I purchased a 2009 Hyundai Azera last year from fuccillo chevrolet in grand island, new york. The car was new and still on the lot after 2 years but I was assured that there was nothing wrong it and I have been pleased with the vehicle up until now. However, yesterday while driving home from work, the car went into an emergency slow-down mode and both the ecs off and check engine light went on. This happened on the thruway while I was driving in heavy traffic which was harrowing. Fortunately, I was able to 'limp' off the highway and get to a side street. …”

NHTSA complaint #10470269, filed 2012-08, 14,925 miles

Engine: “The vehicle was parked in our driveway and had not been driven for about 12 hours. We were told by the fire department that the engine smoldered for hours and broke through the fire barrier into the car and ignited the inside.”

NHTSA complaint #11115591, filed 2018-08, 140,000 miles

Vehicle speed control: “The first time, I was passing another vehicle and pressed the accelerator and the engine began to race and speed up. The pedal was stuck down. It was not caught on the rug and when I tried lifting with my foot it was not stuck down. The second time, the accelerator was pushed down, and the engine began to speed up and race. I had to put the car in neutral but the engine continued to race. I had to keep my food on the brake but the car as before continued to accelerate.. I had the dealer in renton look at it but they seem not to be able to access the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10670966, filed 2015-01, 39,000 miles

Brakes: “On wednesday november 5, at approximately 5:40am, the 2009 Azera came up to an intersection. Failure to stop caused the driver to run the stop sign. The car became lodged underneath a semi tractor trailer, and was dragged several feet before the semi stopped. The driver of the car was killed instantly. He did not have a medical issue that caused the accident. The driver drove this road everyday. They were aware of the stop sign, and had a spotless driving record. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the car to prove that the brakes failed. Only the trunk remains.”
